Ginevra returns to her hometown to be close to her father in his remaining days of life. Her stay turns into a trip down memory lane. Accompanied by perhaps the most important character: the cinema of the small town where have taken place the best moments of her childhood and her first love story. In the end, the cinema closes down and Ginevra sets off again towards a new beginning.
OUR TAKE
Cinema Arturo is a delicate and intense short film. Ambitious in its mise-en-scene, the film boasts good direction and a nice pace, excellent foundations that allow the lead actress, Roberta Di Somma, to give her best performance with a consistently focused portrayal. The film narrates an inner journey, an exploration of the feeling of return. The director, right from the start, through a train and the station, informs the audience that her short film will tell a journey, or rather, a process, leading the protagonist towards new destinations and realizations. The influence of Tornatore's themes is evident - if for no other reason than the use of art as a tool for understanding and reflection for the characters. However, the film never becomes caricatured.
